Book

jl-slide-bookI wrote an eBook titled, Likeability: What We Can Learn From Social Media About Becoming Better Humans. I’ve been thinking about this project and working on it for a long time, and I’m so excited to finally be able to share it with you!

I hope this acts as a valuable resource and that it starts good conversation among you and friends.

Here is a little bit about the book.

I often hear people say social media is making us worse humans, but I’m not sure I believe that is true. In fact, I think there are many ways in which social media may simply be revealing what was already under the surface, imbedded deep in our human condition.

A bent toward selfishness…

The tendency to fight and argue over petty things…

A proclivity to compare ourselves to others…

Self-rightousness and judgement…

Self-centerdness (thinking the world revolves around us)…

An inflated ego…

And the thing I find most fascinating about this is that, as I watch the world of social media unfold and become something of substance, I am noticing how the very thing that make us like-able on social media — the things that get us clicks, shares and “likes” — are the things that make us likeable in real life. These things usually stand in opposition to the things I listed above.

They are things like sharing, being humble, celebrating with others, reaching out, making connections. These are the things I discuss in Likeability.

Is it possible we have something to learn from this?
